Queen & Guard-Captain Visual Development
Queen Liealia Montbeliarde and Captain Genevieve Fournier
This project features design and visual development for a guarded and ruthless Queen, Liealia of house Montbeliarde, and her clandestine lover and Guard Captain, Genevieve Fournier. The primary challenge for Liealia was creating a grandiose and opulent silhouette while still allowing her to appear restricted and closed-off. Genevieve would need to be a foil while still remaining visually harmonious, so I looked to traditional military garments while attempting to echo shapes and motifs from Liealia’s gown. For both I ended up marrying opulence with a more hard and guarded power by mixing fabrics and different methods of draping. The process included rounds of silhouetting, ideation, and iteration, followed by color studies, busts, and a turnaround.
